Average graduate earns £20,000, says report

The average salary for a graduate currently stands at £20,000, it has been revealed.

Applicants for graduate sales jobs may be interested to learn that of the figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency, which also showed that almost two-thirds of people have full-time positions within six months of leaving higher education.

Bill Rammell, the higher education minister, welcomed the figures as evidence of the value of degrees.

"These statistics show that six months after graduation, a university degree is a great way to get a good, well-paid job and to get on in life, a picture that only improves over time," Mr Rammell commented.

He was speaking after a report in the Observer showing that a growing number of companies are no longer using 2:1 degrees as a benchmark of candidate quality, considering more applicants with 2:2s.

The Higher Education Statistics Agency report found that 64 per cent of full-time students who obtained degrees in June 2007 entered full-time work, perhaps in the field of graduate sales.
