Oxbridge graduates 'value balance over salary'

Oxford and Cambridge University graduates regard work/life balance and ethical practices as the most important factors in choosing a job after college, it has been revealed.

A study of university-leavers carried out by recruitment media firm Top Employers found 74 per cent of respondents valued equilibrium between work and home life most highly, while 72 per cent valued ethical business behaviour.

Director of the firm Sebastian Donovan said he was surprised at the lack of importance placed on factors such as entrepreneurial environment and rapid promotion.

"The good news is that this seems to explode the myth that Oxbridge grads are all expecting to hop on the train to the City and sign up for the work hard, play hard bonus culture that has come under fire recently," he added.

Last week, Aorta Sales claimed recruitment processes are vital in the current economic climate as hiring errors can cost organisations thousands of pounds in wasted salary, car expenses and desk costs.
