Smaller firms 'likely to offer positions to graduates'

Graduates looking for sales jobs may have a better chance of finding work with smaller firms than large companies, it has been claimed.

Chris Morrall, managing director at graduate coaching group Talent Transitions, stated that degrees remain valuable in the current economic climate but graduates may need to spread their net wider than they first thought to be sure of employment.

He continued: "Always put your CV across two or three people to check it before you send it to a company. Tailor it to a company. I'd say less applications, better quality, tailored to the organisation, don't just spam things over."

Mr Morrall went on to say that the job market for employment at larger firms is 45 per cent down on last year but smaller companies are a picking up graduates and the public sector market remains buoyant.

Research carried out by the Association of Graduate Recruiters in April indicates employers will be taking on fewer graduates in 2008-09 compared with 2007-08.
