Graduate jobseekers 'helped by extra-curricular work'

Extra-curricular activities can help graduates - such as those considering sales jobs - to become more employable, it has been claimed.

According to Nottingham University, activities which enable students to reflect on the activities they have done, evaluate the outcome and consider other options they could have taken can all help jobseekers bolster their CVs.

Dr Paul Greatrix, registrar at the institution, commented that it is currently offering students a way of showing employers how the transferable skills they have developed make them even more employable through its new Nottingham Advantage Award scheme.

"The Nottingham Advantage Award is designed to recognise their successes outside their academic studies, offering a tangible benefit to add to a CV," added Professor David Riley, pro vice chancellor for student experience at the university.

Last week, studies by Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University suggested social networking websites are increasingly being used by graduates looking for jobs.
