Tailored applications 'best bet for graduates'

Graduates looking for sales jobs should make tailored applications rather than simply send out a generic CV, it has been stressed.

According to membership body The Recruitment Society, a degree remains a good investment for jobseekers despite the difficult economic climate.

Steve Huxham, chairman of the organisation, commented: "The message is not to get depressed [over not finding a job] but to cover more ground as a jobseeker and to cover it intelligently - and to make specific rather than hordes of standard applications."

He went on to say that research carried out by the Association of Graduate Recruiters earlier this week, which indicated there are currently an average of 48 graduate applications for every job, should be viewed carefully as it will only have taken into account a certain number of traditional recruiters.

The study also found that the quality of job applications is on the up as graduates sharpen up their act in the difficult economic climate.
