Sales recruitment: Extra languages can be 'economically beneficial'

People who have learned a foreign language could find themselves in a better position when applying for sales jobs.

Teresa Tinsley, director of communications at the National Centre for Languages, said that people wanting to apply for sales jobs need to be more aware of the economic and cultural benefits of learning a language.

Ms Tinsley also advised that anyone thinking of going abroad on a year out should take the time to learn the language of their destination country, as it is an "ideal opportunity".

She added: "We want to see more sales recruitment services valuing languages as a key business skill. We also need to increase the number of UK graduates competent to work internationally, to enable them to compete with multilingual counterparts across the world."

Travel company Skyscanner recently recommended that people who have just returned from a gap year with a grasp of a new language would be able to enhance their CV with their new skill.
