Graduate sales jobs given boost by govt partnership

The government has given up to 10,000 graduates looking for sales jobs a boost in a partnership with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

Prime minister Gordon Brown announced that graduates' future employability in sales jobs will be helped through internships in small and micro businesses.

"Our guarantee to all young people is that with millions of new opportunities from apprenticeships to internships to a new class of modern technicians, we will discover, coach, develop and showcase the wealth of aspiration and talent that exists in Britain," he said.

The prime minister added that even in the midst of tough economic times, the government is happy to encourage a new generation of young Britons to embrace their ambitions.

John Wright, national chairman of the FSB, said that the pledge to set up 10,000 internships was a real victory for the group and for small businesses across the country.

Graduates looking to set up their own businesses could also receive help thanks to more government funding.

The Department of Business Innovation and Skills has launched the Flying Start scheme, which will see £1 million dedicated to offering advice and helping people become self employed.
