Graduates need to be more proactive to get into sales jobs

Graduates are losing out on their dream sales jobs because they are not being proactive enough, according to an industry expert.

Co-founder of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau Daniel Halls said: "They cannot just sit back and wait for a job to come to them. They have to be very proactive, now more than ever."

Mr Halls also commented that the current sales job market is very competitive and, in some cases, this year's graduates are up against graduates from last year who might have more work experience.

David Baker, managing director of training firm Evolutions, said that many current students are leaving applications for internships too late and they need to show more willing in the current economic climate.

He also advised that, with most graduate schemes for 2010 closing their application windows in November or December of this year, students have to learn how to stand out to prospective recruitment specialists.
