Increase in graduates enquiring about setting up own sales jobs
There has been a "tangible" increase in the number of graduates enquiring about becoming self-employed or setting up their own sales business, according to an industry body.
Ian Robertson, chief executive of the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship, said that the group is seeing more enquiries and interest than ever before.
"Of course, there are less mainstream jobs and there are going to be even fewer in the coming years. Secondly, a lot of people are coming on to the market through early retirement, so oddly enough there is a big increase in graduates and a big increase in over 50s," he added.
Mr Robertson also commented that in some ways, there could not be a better time for graduates to set up new sales jobs as there is more support and interest in helping unemployed graduates than ever before.
His thoughts came as The Prince's Trust published figures which showed that more than half of aspiring young entrepreneurs have taken no action to put plans to run their own business into action.
