Flexible working 'better for people's health'

The benefits of sales jobs where people can choose their own hours have been highlighted by a new report.

Researchers for the Cochrane Library found that workers who controlled the hours that they worked had better blood pressure and heart rates, the BBC reported.

People in flexible sales jobs also had a more positive mental health outlook, according to the review of 16 studies which encompassed more than 16,000 people.

The researchers at Cochrane Library said that the key was employees being able to have control over the hours that they worked, rather than bosses choosing when someone had to arrive and leave on a daily basis.

Earlier this month, Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, said that while there may be a lack of flexible sales jobs out there at the moment, candidates have a duty to make sure that they are remaining open to other possibilities as well.

He added that as employer confidence rises, more flexible sales recruitment opportunities will become available.
