Scottish charity to 'suit and boot' women for sales recruitment interviews
A Scottish charity is helping to give sales recruitment hopefuls the best possible chance of success by providing them with smart clothes for job interviews.
Dress for Success Strathclyde is the first scheme of its kind in Scotland, with volunteers helping women to choose suits, shoes and accessories from donations.
Already the initiative is working, with some of the first women to have taken part securing jobs.
Katrina Gibbons, chief executive of the Council for Voluntary Service for Hamilton and East Kilbride, said that there is a corporate expectation that women will turn up at an interview smartly dressed.
"But some women have never been in work, or have been out of employment for a long time and don't have a suit, and maybe have other things to spend their money on," she added.
Karen Burns, a recruitment expert writing for USNews.com, recently said that wearing the wrong workplace clothes for an interview is one of the worst mistakes that sales recruitment hopefuls can make.
