Willetts: Govt will back graduates

David Willetts, minister for Universities and Skills said the government is committed to helping graduates searching for sales jobs and other positions find their ideal role.

"The job market remains challenging for new graduates, as it does for others. But a degree is still a good investment in the long term, and graduates have a key role to play in helping Britain out of the recession," he stated.

Mr Willetts added that the coalition government is committed to making it easier for current graduates to find work and that is why he has asked all universities to provide statements on employability for their students.

The government's statement follows comments from Martin Pennington, director of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, who said that extracurricular activities are important for graduates who want to stand out and capture their dream sales job.

Mr Pennington added that volunteering or working for the student union could be an ideal way to gain experience.
