Graduate sales: University is still vital for better jobs

Choosing to avoid going to university could spell disaster for a young person's career prospects, according to one expert, who said the traditional route is still the best for Britain's youth.

Johnny Rich, editor of Push.co.uk, said that at the moment there are large numbers of young people not making it into university because of competition for places and not making it in could mean that graduate sales jobseekers miss out.

"Unless the higher education system expands, we will always be having people who were disappointed this year and last year," he stated.

The expert added that graduate sales jobs are going to become more sought after over the next few years as more young people leave university and start to compete for roles.

Meanwhile, universities minister David Willetts has told the House of Commons Business, Innovation and Skills Committee that the new government does not want to get into a situation where the focus is entirely on the academic route.
