Recruiters making 'major efforts' to retain and hire women

Companies are making a major effort to keep female workers and employ more, according to one sector expert.

Jerri Barrett, vice president of marketing for Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology, said that there are currently not enough women in technical role such as IT, which is often due to the small percentage of female students in college classes.

Her comments follow the publication of a poll at the 360 IT event, which revealed the industry still faces a "massive dearth" of women in IT jobs, with three-quarters of organisations not doing enough to attract females into the industry.

Ms Barrett explained: "Companies are paying more and more attention to their corporate cultures and are making significant efforts on retaining their female employees, especially at the mid-level."

She added that firms are also making mentoring more systematic and implementing greater flexibility solutions in order to ensure more female workers are brought onboard.
