Good feedback 'helps young professionals settle in'

Graduate recruits can settle into the workplace more easily if they receive positive feedback and management from their superiors, one sector expert has observed.

Guy Emmerson, associate director of Badenoch & Clark, said that recruiters can get the best out of graduates by praising the good work they are carrying out and offering constructive criticism when they do something wrong.

It comes after research by the company showed that graduate recruits in the legal profession are often sceptical about what their managers tell them about business performance.

Mr Emmerson said it is important to engage young professionals from the moment they enter the company and focus on effective and regular communication.

"The communication needs to be really strong between the manager and the employees. I think general engagement work from the company about their vision and their strategy and how they are going to deal with a particular market is really important," he explained.
